It's always a good idea to have a few cocktail recipes on hand, especially around the holidays. Pomegranate gin and tonics are a great option because while they're not cloying, the citrus and fruit juice add just the right amount of sweetness. As with most drinks, the quality of your ingredients can make a huge difference in the final product. The recipe below makes enough for two drinks, but it can be scaled up as needed.

Things You’ll Need

  • 1 cup 100% pomegranate juice

  • 1 cup good quality tonic water, such as Fever Tree or Whole Foods 365

  • 2 shots good quality gin, such as Bombay Sapphire

  • 1/2 – 1 lime, juiced (to taste)

  • Optional: 1/2 medium orange, juiced (to taste)

  • Optional: fresh pomegranate seeds for garnish

Step 1: Gather Your Ingredients

Ingredient quality will always have an impact on the final results of a recipe, but this is especially true with cocktails. There aren't many ingredients being used, and while you don't need to go super high end, don't buy the cheapest products. Use 100% pomegranate juice and freshly squeezed citrus. Bombay Sapphire is a very good gin that's widely available and won't break the bank. Fever Tree is a high quality tonic with a smooth flavor. Whole Foods 365 Brand Tonic is also a great option.

Step 2: Measure Out the Gin

Use a standard shot glass or jigger to measure 2 shots of gin into a cocktail shaker or liquid measuring cup.

Step 3: Juice the Lime (And Orange, If Using)

Some people like a lot of lime in their gin and tonics, so it's a good idea to try adding to taste until you figure out how much citrus you like.

Step 4: Add Tonic and Pomegranate Juice

Add the remaining liquid ingredients, gently shake together to combine and then pour into two ice filled glasses garnished with lime wedges. If using, spoon some pomegranate seeds on top.

Tip

The pomegranate seeds are a decorative garnish; they will sink to the bottom of the glass easily. To prevent this, spoon them on top of ice cubes or lime wedges.
