Things You’ll Need
-
3 apples
-
1 teaspoon ground cinnamon
-
Dash of nutmeg (optional)
Tip
For best results, use a crunchy variety like Honeycrisp, Pink Lady, Fuji or Red Delicious. You can also double or triple the recipe by simply using more cinnamon and nutmeg.
Step 1
Preheat the oven to 220°F. Line a large baking sheet with parchment paper or a silicone baking mat.
Slice the apples into thin rounds, about 1/8 to 1/4-inch thick. Use a sharp knife or mandolin slicer. Carefully remove the seeds.
Step 2
In a large bowl, toss the apples with cinnamon and nutmeg. Make sure both sides are evenly coated.
Step 3
Place the apple slices on the baking sheet. Bake for 1 1/2 hours, flip then bake for another 1 1/2 hours. The chips are ready once they're dry and crispy.
Tip
The total length of time depends on the thickness and moisture of your apple slices. Also, keep in mind that every oven is different. If your chips aren't dry after 3 hours, continue to bake them, checking every 10 to 15 minutes. In the future, you can adjust the temperature or baking time accordingly.
Step 4
Let cool for 30 to 45 minutes. Once cool, your baked cinnamon apple chips are ready to enjoy. Store in an air-tight container for 5 to 7 days.
