While you may have multiple bucket lists that involve traveling to different parts of the world, that doesn't mean you can't still have a fun and relaxing time while vacationing at home. Check out our list of staycation ideas for tips to get the most out of your time off from work or school so you can relax and recharge!

With travel off the table for many of us due to pandemic restrictions, staycations are more popular than ever. They’re the perfect solution if you’re craving a break and need a few days of rest and relaxation. Your home and your city are the perfect spots to enjoy some me time if you’re single, or bask in romance with your significant other. If you’re ready for a vacation at home, here are 12 amazing staycation ideas for singles and couples!

3 Tips to Make the Most Out of Your Staycation

1. Put Your Phone Away
Our phones have become our biggest distraction. To truly enjoy and make the most of your staycation, put your phone away so you can be in the moment. Whether you’re doing a solo activity like having a spa day, or having a dinner date with your partner, putting your phone away must be the first thing you do!

2. Take the Pressure Off
We often put pressure on ourselves to be productive and always be doing something. A staycation is meant to be relaxing and rejuvenating. Sleep in, go at your own pace, and try not to make a schedule. You can plan your activities, but take the pressure off so you can truly enjoy your time.

3. Prep Your Home
If you really want to make the best of your staycation, make sure your housework and errands are all done ahead of time. Make your home as comfortable and relaxing as possible – vacuum, clean the bathrooms and de-clutter so that you’re not tempted to do these things during your staycation. Consider adding some feel-good decor, like a vase of flowers, new bed sheets and a nice candle to create a calm atmosphere.

6 Staycation Ideas for Singles

1. Have a Spa Day
Is a day of rest and rejuvenation exactly what you need? Spa days are easy to do yourself and you don’t even need to leave your home! Make some bath bombs, order face masks, essential oils and a jade roller and get ready for a relaxing day. Put some music on, light your favourite candles and enjoy a warm bath, face mask and manicure and pedicure. Don’t forget a big, fluffy robe and slippers to lounge in after your bath!

2. Be a Tourist In Your Own City
While staying in is nice and cozy, if you’re more of an adventure seeker, play tourist in your own city. Explore areas you haven’t gone before and grab a coffee and snack from a new spot for your venture. Many people rarely take the time to explore their own city, so create a game plan for new spots and areas you want to check out!

3. Take an Online Art Class
You don’t have to be an artist to take an art class. Art classes are a great way to get your creative juices flowing and do something new and fun! Art is therapeutic and you’ll feel a sense of accomplishment once you’re done with your piece, no matter how “good” it is.

4. Have a Cooking/Baking Night
If you don’t often have the time to cook or bake, set a night aside to cook your favourite food or bake a goodie for dessert or breakfast the next morning. Spending time in the kitchen is such a nice way to unwind, and trying new recipes sparks creativity!

5. Create Your Own Indoor Oasis
Consider hanging a hammock, placing tropical plants and hanging macrame lanterns to turn your living space into a travel-themed oasis. The decor will make you feel like you’re enjoying a tropical trip and you can spend your staycation reading, doing yoga and journaling.

6. Have a Movie and Takeout Night
Order from your favourite takeout place and put together a line up of movies to watch! Cuddle up in a big blanket, turn off the lights and light your favourite scented candles. Enjoy your takeout with your beverage of choice and relax the night away, transported to another world through your film choices.

6 Staycation Ideas for Couples

1. Make Dinner Together
If you’re used to getting take out or only one of you cooking, set aside a staycation night to cook dinner together. Pop open some wine, put on a playlist and cook a delicious dinner, from appetizer to dessert. Consider making your favourite dishes or dishes you’ve always wanted to try but have never made before. Light some candles, set the table and enjoy your homemade feast!

2. Have a TV Show Marathon
Sometimes all you want to do is sit on your couch, relax and watch TV. Choose a TV show you both haven’t seen that has multiple seasons and have a TV show marathon. Get into your comfiest clothes, buy some snacks and have your favourite food ordering service at the ready!

3. Go for a Picnic
Picnics are a summer go-to, but you can also have picnics in the cold weather, just make sure to dress appropriately! The great thing about picnics is that you can pack your favourite foods and get as cozy as possible with your significant other. It’s so nice to go out and get fresh air, and for cold weather picnics, you can pack warm drinks like hot cocoa, mulled wine or hot apple cider to keep you warm! If you’re not into a cold weather picnic, consider an indoor picnic when it gets cold out.

4. Eat Breakfast in Bed
How often do you have breakfast in bed, or even enjoy a sit down breakfast together? Mornings are often so busy that breakfast is eaten on the go or in a rush. Get some warm pastries, fresh orange juice and coffees from your favourite cafe and eat breakfast together in bed while chatting or watching your favourite movie.

5. Have a Game Night
If you’re tired of watching TV, have a fun game night with your partner where you play games like Jenga, Codenames: Duet, and Scrabble. A game night is a nice way to get a break from screen time and will have you and your partner in some healthy competition. Consider having prizes for the winner!

6. Take a Workout Class
If you’re an active couple, set up a workout space at home and do an online workout class together. Whether it’s couples yoga or a dance class, it’s fun to get moving with your partner!

If you’re craving a staycation, try some of these awesome ideas. Whether you’re single or in a couple, you can relax and enjoy a vacation right at home!
